Surprise in the Post

Together with a birthday card I also received this lovely little handmade postcard. I am so lucky in that I have some lovely friends.

Postcards

This week I have been trying to make some progress on the hall and landing and have been stripping paint off the skirting boards and architraves ready for them to be painted by DH.  It is a horrid job, but I have decided once it is done I can forget about it and get on with more interesting things.

Inbetween the stripping I found some scraps of pelmet vilene just crying out to be made into postcards so I have done three to date which will eventually be sent to some of my friends as a surprise in the post.  I have not made any for such a long time and really enjoy doing them.

This dandelion is not finished and needs all its threads clipping for sewing in.

This second card was using up lots of scraps of bondaweb and pieces of fabric, something I do not usually do and is a bit out of my comfort zone.

This last one was just using up an old scrap of dyed fabric and some threads that were lying around.

Fabric Postcard

More rummaging in old photographs and found some snaps of some of my postcards ...

Do not know who I sent this one to?

.... and this one was very silly.  What I like about them is you can make them as simple or as complicated as you want and the person you post them to gets a lovely surprise.

Lots of snow today so DH is working from home so cannot get to my sewing machine as he works on the same desk!!  Have been working on the cover for another 'Travelling Journal' which I am going to share with some of my friends up in the North.

Deja vu

John's Allotment
Those people who know me will be aware that I occasionally send fabric postcards, perhaps to cheer them up and sometimes for no particular reason, just as the whim takes me.  Well I got a surprise this last year when I was sent a photograph of the subject of my postcard - John's allotment!!

The postcard actually got transformed into a sketchbook cover for John's 'special' birthday, but it started off postcard size.

Another postcard has been in the planning for some time - one of my ex college 'chums' used to continually say: "If you look hard enough you can see a camel everyday!"

So watch this space ....

Postcards

Purple Moon

Finished off the third postcard.

This one had a Lynda Monk background but I have painted it with acrylic paint and stitched into it too.  The purple circle is a bit of a teabag I had coloured and cut out.

Will post this one to someone too.

Postcards

Blue Moon
The road less travelled
Meant to be doing cleaning ... but had to finish off these postcards I was messing about with yesterday before I could concentrate on the job in hand. I made a big mistake on the first one.  I tried to seal it with acrylic wax.  You can't because the coloured surface becomes liquid as soon as you put anything wet on it.  I ended up having to seal the surface of each piece with a matt spray varnish.  By the way the blue moon is a bit of stained teabag fabric I had left over from making teabag books.

I will be posting these cards to a couple of friends any day shortly!!
